What Are

Murphy Panel Beds

A Murphy panel bed is a type of Murphy Bed. It is a space-saving bed that is stored either vertically or horizontally, in a cabinet that is anchored to a wall. Full-size, twin and queen Murphy panel beds fold up and out of sight when not in use and can be pulled down when needed. Panel or folding wall beds open directly downwards, like a dishwasher or oven door. The panel door become the under support for the mattress.

Murphy Panel Beds

The name Murphy dates to the early 1900s when William Murphy patented his fold-away bed. Much like the brand name Xerox came to generically mean photocopy, the name Murphy is now used for wall beds in general.

According to a 2016 study by RCLCO, apartment size is shrinking. The average apartment is 7% smaller today than in 2009. This is a loss of 71 square feet. Apartment and condo dwellers in Fort Myers and Naples know that South Florida is no exception to this general trend. Bedrooms can be as small as 10 feet x 10 feet. To put this into perspective, a queen size bed is about 6.5 feet by 5 feet. Wall beds go a long way in making the most of these limited spaces. A Murphy panel bed is both elegant and practical. It can be installed either vertically or horizontally, depending on room dimensions and preference. Imagine having an extra 30+ square feet of bedroom space.

Many of us don’t have both a home office and a guest bedroom. These functions are often awkwardly combined to create a room that doesn’t function well as either. A wall bed is the perfect solution for this dilemma. The Murphy panel bed is particularly well suited for a home office.

Fortunately for those of us lucky enough to live in the Ft Myers area, Home Office USA offers a variety of wall beds, and offers installation services.
